memory palace // vibe check
WORKSHOP—INSTALLATION AT UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
Over a 2 day intensive, I worked with undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Interiors at University of Kentucky to build a balloon palace. The palace, sized approximately based off my living room dimensions, is an ode to gathering and togetherness despite the intensity that COVID-19 brought to the world. Inside the palace are vacuum-formed domes that house objects collected from the students. The objects are representative of memories formed during the height of the pandemic.
A "memory palace" is a technique used for intentionally recalling a list of thoughts. The memory palace we built together is a physical manifestation of stand-ins for our collective memories.
Thank you to SUBSTUDIO (Hannah Dewhirst & Ingrid Schmidt) for inviting me to UKY.
